Peter Dinklage Stars in Musical Version of 'Cyrano'

This looks good! Joe Wright (who’s always better in period settings than trying to helm a genre movie for a major studio) directs this musical version of the famous story starring Peter Dinklage. Given his successes in the past are some of my all time faves (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina are all on my blu-ray shelf), I’ll be here for this.

Paul Thomas Anderson Takes Us Back to the 70's With 'Licorice Pizza'

Yeah, that’s right. Licorice Pizza. I thought that was a joke title, but apparently it’s real. This 70’s coming of age comedy is reminiscent of many other similar looking movies to me (Almost Famous comes to mind), but it is bittersweet seeing Cooper Hoffman (son of Philip Seymour) playing the lead. And PTA always delivers something interesting, at least.

Kristen Stewart Fails to Transform into Diana in Full 'Spencer' Trailer

I’m aware of the fans on the internet trying to manufacture an Oscar nomination for something they haven’t even seen, but all I can see in every inch of this trailer is Stewart in a bad wig. Even the still shows her looking more like a weird Hillary Clinton impersonator than a Diana one. And the rest of it looks pretentious, over the top, and phony.

Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand Star in "The Tragedy of Macbeth'

Is this the year of black and white or what? Joel Coen’s first effort without brother Ethan (who apparently is tired of making movies) is premiering at the New York Film Festival this Friday. This short teaser doesn’t show us much, but it definitely has potential (as any Coen film would of course). Can’t wait to hear how it is.

Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson Star in 'Passing'

Rebecca Hall made her directorial debut with this Sundance hit, which is coming out now on Nov. 10th, about a time in the early 20th century when some African-Americans chose to “pass” as white, hiding their true identity. I’m not sure what kind of accent Tessa Thompson thinks she’s doing here, but on top of her inexplicable made up one in Thor: Ragnarok, I’m thinking someone needs to tell her to get some dialect coaching. I’m also not sure either of these actresses could pass as white at that time- maybe someone like Rashida Jones or (former actress) Meghan Markle.

Bradley Cooper Stars in Guillermo del Toro's 'Nightmare Alley'

I can’t wait to see this one! Nightmare Alley was a 1947 film noir starring Tyrone Power, and Guillermo del Toro has always wanted to do a remake (though they claim it’s less a remake than another version of the same novel- still, I see similarities to the old movie in this teaser). As usual with del Toro, the movie looks like a stunning period production and a star studded cast fills out the ensemble- Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, and Toni Collette. It comes out December 17th.

The Trailer for Steven Spielberg's 'West Side Story' is Finally Here

Well, this looks…like the original. Honestly, it does seem like a very faithful rendering of West Side Story, but with the correction of having a Puerto Rican actress play Maria. I still am not entirely sure why Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner (who wrote Lincoln and Angels in America) wanted to do a remake of this of all things, but we’ll see if turns out to be any good. I can’t really tell from this trailer, which doesn’t show anything you wouldn’t expect (I’m also not an Ansel Elgort fan, who seems to me like a black hole of charisma- that guy would stand out in a crowd? I don’t think so).

Neo and Trinity Reunite in 'The Matrix Resurrections'

I know everyone thinks this looks cool, but I can’t tell if that’s just because literally anything would look cool if it’s set to “White Rabbit.” I mean, come on. Overall it’s leaning heavily on nostalgia but I can’t say that doesn’t entirely work, as watching this trailer certainly brought back all those Matrix memories (the first one was a flashpoint movie for so many people). I do think Keanu could have least changed his haircut and shaved his John Wick beard for this. Oh, and I assume there must be a pretty good plot reason that Laurence Fishburne was not invited back to reprise his role as Morpheus, right? It’s coming out Dec 22nd in theaters and on HBO Max.

Leo Dicaprio Stresses Out Over The End of the World in 'Don't Look Up' Teaser

At least I think it’s the end of the world. This isn’t much of a teaser for anything. What’s with the way it cuts off so abruptly? It’s another Adam McKay comedy, but I’m wary because for me his movies have been getting smugger and smugger lately (did anyone really like Vice that much?). Yet he assembled the biggest star studded cast on earth for this, so actors are just crawling all over themselves to work with him. We’ll have to wait and see a longer trailer to judge this one.
