Ana De Armas Looks Like Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde' Trailer

This is apparently debuting at Venice, but I can’t get over the fact that Ana de Armas couldn’t even try to lose her Cuban accent for this role. I’m sorry, but it’s very distracting. Why would you cast someone as one of the most famous American icons of all time, who absolutely cannot do the voice? I don’t blame her, I blame the director. But the movie looks good otherwise! She sure does look like her.

Shazam Returns With 'Fury of the Gods' Sequel

Despite not officially participating in SDCC, WB did release the full trailer for the Shazam sequel, and as expected, that kid playing Billy now looks in his 20’s, which sort of negates a lot of the point of him transforming into an adult man (as I said years ago, they should have cast younger from the start or made these movies a lot quicker). It doesn’t look that great, as an overly tanned Zachary Levi seems to be acting the wrong age now, and for some inexplicable reason they decided to make up original villains rather than pulling from the character’s long comics history (which tells me these people weren’t particular Captain Marvel, re Shazam fans anyway).

'Wakanda: Forever' Trailer is Here

SDCC was going on this weekend and used the opportunity to debut the trailer for the long delayed Black Panther sequel (without Black Panther). Everyone seems to be using this as a cathartic chance to grieve the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, as it does indeed appear they’ve decided to kill off T’Challa offscreen, rather than recast (a terrible mistake imo). It remains to be seen how this will work as a movie, without the lead character

Dante and Randall Are Back in 'Clerks III'

I don’t know who exactly was asking for this after the relative disappointment of Clerks 2 in 2006, but hey, there’s always an audience for nostalgia bait. This movie doesn’t look that bad, but like with a lot of sequels, all it does for me is make me want to revisit the original, which is actually really good, if you haven’t seen it. Check out Clerks from 1994. It’s worth a look.

David O. Russell Returns with 'Amsterdam'

In David O. Russell’s first film since 2015’s Joy, he assembles another all star cast for what looks like a wacky period comedy (American Hustle in the 1930’s?) and frankly it doesn’t look that great. Getting kind of tired of seeing Margot Robbie in everything, to be honest. Also it just seems in line with his more recent movies where people are shouting all the time and not much is really happening under the surface. But Christian Bale is usually entertaining in a Russell movie. This one comes out in November.
