So, it’s not just you. These are really early. The various industry guilds usually start announcing their nominees in December and through January, but for some reason the Makeup & Hair Guild wanted to go first this year, a whole two months earlier than they announced last year. I guess they must have seen everything already? They have too many separate categories, so it’s a little hard to tell Oscar nominations from this, but early hints may say something like Bombshell, Rocketman and Joker, since they each got more than one nomination (though I’d be interested to know why Joker got into period makeup, but contemporary hairstyling?). A snub would be something like Judy. And it could be a hint that Joker will do well with the guilds overall, since everyone still perceives it as something of an awards wild card, due to its dark nature and all the controversy. But it’s always hard for the industry to ignore that box office with a movie that succeeded in being considered prestigious, despite mixed reviews. We shall see.
