There were quite a few guild awards given out last night. One of them wasn’t a guild, but it was the highly predictive USC Scripter award, which pretty much always ends up going to the winner of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar. That went to Greta Gerwig for Little Women, which puts her in a good spot to win her first Oscar for screenwriting.

The CAS also gave its top prize for sound mixing to Ford v. Ferrari, which just got the sound editing prize last weekend. I know I said bet on 1917 for both sound awards, and the truth is I still think that. The sound people prefer Ford v. Ferrari obviously, but when it’s thousands of non-sound specialists voting at the Oscars, I still think the war movie wins out.

To no one’s surprise, the ASC gave its top honor to Roger Deakins for his work on 1917, which IS going to go on to win the Oscar too, I’m sure. The cinematography is eye-catching and undeniable.
