The Lion King is likely a strong contender for the VFX Oscar

The guild for visual effects has now spoken. They don’t always match perfectly with Oscar, so for a lot of these tech awards I usually watch for who wins the guild and also who wins the BAFTA award, since both share membership with the Academy. I’m guessing right now that probably The Lion King wins visual effects? I don’t know if anything else this year made much of an impact in terms of that (I doubt The Irishman’s de-aging was impressive enough to win).
