'Mank' Leads the 2021 Golden Globe Nominations

Mank tops the Golden Globe nominees, potentially giving it a boost in the now forming Oscar race

Streamers dominate in these nominations, as David Fincher’s Mank leads the annual Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s choices, followed by Trial of the Chicago 7 and Promising Young Woman. Despite some head scratchers in the Musical/Comedy categories (Music?), to my mind the big headline is for the first time in history, the directing category consists of three women and two men! That’s historic, as the handful of women ever nominated in the past were all the sole female nominees in their category. Congratulations to Chloe Zhao, Regina King and Emerald Fennell for that historic achievement. The Oscar race starts to take shape now as the SAG Award nominees come out tomorrow, so stay tuned.
