Well, for once I didn't do too badly in my Emmy predictions, going 12 for 18 in the categories I predicted (I know it doesn't sound great, but hey, I usually get like 6 max, so for me it's a huge improvement). Some fantastic wins tonight, as Jon Hamm FINALLY won Best Actor in a Drama for playing the iconic Don Draper and Viola Davis made history as the first black woman to win Lead Actress in a Drama series. Game of Thrones won more Emmys than any show ever has in a single year, beating the old record held by The West Wing, and to everyone's surprise, including his, they chose Peter Dinklage and not Lena Headey to go along for the ride in representing the actors. I feel stupid now for not seeing that coming- he was my alternate choice there, but Dinklage kinda IS the face of the show for the public, so why wouldn't they choose him to win his second Emmy for that role?

Veep finally took down Modern Family in Comedy series, and showed once more how hard it is for dramedies like Transparent to win there, and also as I predicted, The Daily Show swept everything in Variety for Jon Stewart's farewell bow. It was actually a pretty good ceremony tonight with Andy Samberg doing better than I expected, as most of his bits hit the mark and with the emotional wins of Jon Hamm, Viola Davis and the return to the Emmy stage of Tracy Morgan after his accident, it made for a much better Emmy telecast than we've seen in quite a while. The show wisely elected to have just about every comedian and talk show host on television present something, so the banter/riff intros were often funny, and the slow stuff in the middle (all the Olive Kitteridge dominance) was made up for by good parts at the beginning and end. I'm just so happy about Jon Hamm guys, I could do a happy dance. It was the one thing I really wanted to see tonight and it happened. Don Draper will not go into the annals of TV history unacknowledged. Justice has been done.
