'The Crown,' 'Schitt's Creek' Land Critics Choice TV Nominations

The BFCA is announcing its TV nominations much earlier than their film ones, although the ceremony will still combine the mediums and take place on March 7th (in some form, likely virtual). I’m happy to see these nominations for Season 4 of The Crown, particularly Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor in lead, alongside Olivia Colman. That’s quite a statement- we’ll see if the Globes and later the Emmys follow suit on that one. I expect Schitt’s Creek to dominate the comedy categories like it will at SAG too, but drama could be anyone’s game. Maybe this is The Crown’s year? Or perhaps Better Call Saul gets its due here after being unjustly shafted at the Emmys. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the limited series category- without Watchmen for competition I assume Mrs. America has a leg up…but maybe the undeniable cultural popularity of The Queen’s Gambit makes itself known here first.
