Yay, the Academy did throw some curve balls! The biggest of which was their love of Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, which landed 6 nominations and pushed out Three Billboards' Martin McDonagh in Best Director. Woo-hoo! The Shape of Water (above) remains the frontrunner, but there's a chance for an upset.
