The Gotham awards usually spread the wealth, but this year they fell hard for Noah Baumbach’s movie about a divorce
The Gothams handed out their trophies tonight and in an unusual sweep, Marriage Story dominated. The Gothams don’t mean much for the Oscars (last year their big winner was The Rider), but Marriage Story is expected to be a big frontrunner, so it’s a huge boost for the Netflix film, which streams for everyone on Friday. It’s also a boost for Adam Driver, who wins his first Best Actor prize. Tomorrow the critics awards officially kick off with the NBR announcements for best of the year, so stay tuned.
