Frozen 2’s reviews were mediocre, but the massive box office could propel the franchise to another Oscar win anyway

The Annie Award nominations are here! Looks like there’s not one dominant movie among the bunch this year, like there usually is. That could mean that the winner of this might not match the Oscar winner this time. It’s been a while since that happened, but it’s not unprecedented. Toy Story 4 got much better reviews that Frozen 2 did, but it looks like the latter is the only movie (along with the French film I Lost My Body) to get writing, directing and feature nominations from the Annies. And both Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4 are sequels, which don’t tend to do as well with awards in general- but I’m sure the winner will be one of them. I’d also like to note that How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, while also a sequel, is part of a franchise that hasn’t won the Oscar yet, but is there any hope for it?

I loved Toy Story 4, but do awards voters think this series has been honored enough?
