I’m STUNNED. In the best possible way. Parasite’s historic win made it the first film not in english to win Best Picture at the Oscars, something I wasn’t sure I would ever see happen. And director too! And it was completely, 100% deserved. Just one year after giving it to the middlebrow, old-fashioned Green Book, the same exact Academy turns around and awards Parasite, which is undoubtedly one of their best Best Picture winners of all time, and I just can’t get over it. I’m amazed. I guess it’s time to just throw out all the stats, because the guilds are clearly NOT the Academy anymore and anything can happen in Best Picture now. And most of all, I’m so thrilled that more people will now see Parasite, because it’s great and they will love it.

In other winner news, I went 20/24 in my predictions, because of course I blew the biggest two wins of the night, assuming PGA/DGA meant something (silly me). But I couldn’t be happier, because I would so much rather see something historic like this happen than be right on my stupid predictions. Also, in my defense, the DGA winner not winning the directing Oscar is SO rare that it’s literally only happened a handful of times in Oscar history (and a few those were only because the DGA winner wasn’t nominated at the Oscars). To pinpoint when that’s going to happen is pretty nuts. But most of the winners were expected, including the acting wins, so my overall record was still decent. Having no host once again worked out for the Academy, as it seems like they’re trying to sneak in comedians to do an opening monologue anyway, just without anyone knowing who it is ahead of time, which is probably smart.
