Adam Sandler gets an Indie Spirit award for Uncut Gems in place of an Oscar nomination
As always, the Independent Spirit Awards were held this afternoon, one day before the Oscars, in that white tent on the beach, so as to be the complete opposite of the formal affair the next night. And with (mostly) different nominees and winners, they succeeded, where they honored The Farewell, Marriage Story, and Uncut Gems, although Renee Zellweger did win here too for Judy, as she will tomorrow. But you can’t say the same for their other (excellent) choices in acting, Adam Sandler, Zhao Shuzhen and Willem Dafoe, none of whom were even nominated, all of whom deserved to be. They had their moment tonight.
