'Mank' Leads the Critics Choice Nominations, 'Minari' and 'News of the World' Get a Boost

News of the World is well liked by the Critics Choice Awards

For whatever reason, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (which is comprised of a lot of non-critics), tends to match the Academy’s taste in Best Picture even more than the Golden Globes or SAG. So it was good news for Mank here, which led with 12 nods, and Minari, with followed it with 10. It was also a boost for News of the World, which got 7 nominations and into some bigger categories, like Picture, Actor, and Screenplay. The Critics Choice Awards will be held on March 7th in virtual form, hosted by Taye Diggs on the CW and watched by about three people, as usual. This group is kind of a joke, as they include so many nominations in each category so that whoever gets in at the Oscars, they can brag that they probably had them here too. Eight people for Best Actor? Really?
