So there we have it. First big guild winners are in, and Emerald Fennell has won the original screenplay WGA for Promising Young Woman, while Borat took the Adapted Screenplay prize. This gives Promising Young Woman a big leg up on that Oscar for the same category, though Aaron Sorkin is still in the race for Trial of the Chicago 7. But the adapted screenplay category is more misleading, because heavy favorite Nomadland was not eligible at the WGA but is nominated for the Oscar, so don’t expect Borat to repeat its win tonight next month.
