We’re trying it again with a Suicide Squad movie, this time with Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn at the helm for an R-rated version. It looks better than the original, but almost anything would, since David Ayer’s 2017 Suicide Squad was one of those notoriously hacked up, re-edited studio products that still has (some) fans calling for the “Ayer Cut” that will never see the light of day. This one recasts Deadshot with Idris Elba and brings back the increasingly tiresome and unfunny Harley Quinn (who I’m more convinced than ever should have been Amanda Seyfried from the beginning). But it basically looks like another Deadpool-esque violent comedy, so nothing new here (unless you’re bowled over by King Shark, but I’m here to tell you he’s been done already for TV, on The Flash and the animated Harley Quinn series).
