Nomadland stays cruising in awards season so far

No surprises at the Critics Choice awards last night, as they chose to stay with the critical consensus in Nomadland for Picture and Director. There were some variations in the two female acting categories, as perhaps Bakalova is still in the race for an Oscar nomination, and Best Actress went to Carey Mulligan. They finally managed to restrain themselves in the amount of suspicious “ties” they produce, with only one this year for editing.

  • BEST ACTRESS: Carey Mulligan – Promising Young Woman

  • BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Maria Bakalova – Borat Subsequent Moviefilm 

  • BEST YOUNG ACTOR/ACTRESS: Alan Kim – Minari 

  • BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE: The Trial of the Chicago 7 

  • BEST DIRECTOR: Chloé Zhao – Nomadland 

  • BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Promising Young Woman 

  • BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Nomadland 

  • BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Nomadland 

  • BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: Mank 

  • BEST EDITING: The Trial of the Chicago 7 & Sound of Metal (tie)

  • BEST COSTUME DESIGN: Ma Rainey's Black Bottom 

  • BEST HAIR AND MAKEUP: Ma Rainey's Black Bottom 

  • BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Tenet 

  • BEST COMEDY: Palm Springs 

  • BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM: Minari 

  • BEST SONG: "Speak Now" – One Night in Miami 

  • BEST SCORE: Soul 

Minari’s Alan Kim takes over from Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project) with the most adorable child acting winner’s acceptance speech in the young actor/actress category:
