So the Visual Effects Society awards happened tonight and the big crowned winner was The Midnight Sky, which…I doubt wins the Oscar, but on the other hand, this category is almost totally bereft of the usual blockbusters, which didn’t get released last year. At any rate, the visual effects people didn’t think Tenet deserved it, but perhaps a wider swath of non-visual effects voters in the Academy will check off the name they recognize (or just not vote, in which case, The Midnight Sky could prevail I guess).

2021 VES WINNERS

Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature: The Midnight Sky
Visual Effects in an Animated Feature: Soul
Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature: Mank
