FIRST LOOK: Christopher Walken as Captain Hook

NBC's live stage musical of Peter Pan is taking shape, set to air on December 4th, as a direct result of the huge success of last year's Sound of Music (despite the quality of that turning out slightly less than ideal). Maybe this one will be better, maybe not- all I know is that the idea of seeing Christopher Walken singing and prancing around on stage as Captain Hook is more than enough to make anyone tune in, at least for a few minutes. Don't you think?

I do wonder why they're still set on the idea of Peter being played by a woman though. I have no idea if Allison Williams will be good at this (my only exposure to her was as the awful Marnie on Girls, but the character wasn't Williams' fault). Wouldn't it be less distracting to have a teenage boy as the lead, even if he's not quite as young as he's supposed to be (I'm sure they could find a shorter guy that could sing if they really tried). Or is it because the person has to be able to sing in those high notes that guys just can't reach? Seems like a dated tradition at this point.
