According to Variety, Rachel McAdams is said to be signing on for the coveted "female lead" role on next season's True Detective. With the combination of McAdams, Farrell, and Vaughn for this new season, I can't help but think this show is now being used as a place for actors whose careers have sort of fallen by the wayside to get a boost out of all the attention it will bring them. But I still can't imagine it being as good as last season's pairing of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who frankly brought a lot to a show that could at times be really pretentious and overwritten in parts. And since I'm sort of convinced the only reason Pizzolatto succumbed to the idea of a female lead in the first place was due to all the criticism he got over the terrible female characters last year, I'm kind of dreading how badly this role might be written.
