'Joker' Leads the BAFTA Nominations with 11 Nods

The industry love for Joker is very real

The industry love for Joker is very real

Ugh. This excessive Joker love has got to stop. The movie is NOT that good. Sometimes the BAFTAs can tell us where there might be some surprises on Oscar morning, since there is some overlap between the British Academy and ours, but these nominees look pretty expected to me. BAFTA did seem to revive The Two Popes somewhat, but I’m not sure if Jonathan Pryce is going to make it into Best Actor or not. I do think that director lineup is probably going to be Oscar’s too, but we’ll see what the DGA has in store tomorrow. It’s also kind of weird that they don’t have a rule against nominating one person twice in the same category (see Margot Robbie for Supporting Actress).
